LAKE WORTH CHRISTIAN GIRLS’ VARSITY VOLLEYBALL WINS FIRST 10 MATCHES

The Lake Worth Christian School girls' varsity volleyball team is making a run toward another coveted state championship. After winning the state title last season, the Defenders played at a high level with an impressive performance during the regular season and continued to seize momentum as they captured the district championship. The squad recently cruised past Trinity Christian Academy with a victory in straight sets by a score of 25-12, 25-4, 25-14 in the District 13-2A finals. Senior setter Parker Folino led the team with 16 assists in the district title match. Sophomore Abby Toeniskoetter had a team-high nine kills and junior Lexi Jacobs registered six kills to help lead the attack. The Defenders are under the direction of long-time volleyball coach Terri Kaiser and feature several impact players on the court. They had several experienced players return to help lead the team throughout the season, including juniors Kelly Franklin, Karly Horn and Emily Caputo and senior Ali Tomlinson. Freshman libero Sarah Montero and freshman setter Sofia Aguilera have both stepped up throughout the season. Seniors Mackenzie Cocuzzo and Bridgette Langolf and freshman Mia Spizale all have contributed to the team’s success as well. Franklin led the team in kills and service aces and finished third in total digs during the regular season. Jacobs finished ranked second in kills and third in blocked shots. Toeniskoetter was first in blocked shots and third in kills. Montero led the team in digs and ranked tied for second in service aces. Horn ranked second in total digs and tied for second in service aces. Folino led the team in assists while Aguilera finished second. Caputo earned second in blocked shots and fourth in kills. Lake Worth Christian School opened the season by winning their first 10 matches played against opponents. They dropped matches against Seacrest Country Day (Naples) and The King’s Academy (West Palm Beach) during October. They have swept opponents in eight different matches throughout the season, which included winning in straight sets during both the district semifinal and district final matches. The Lake Worth Christian girls' volleyball varsity team also had been ranked the No. 1 team in the 2020 Class 2A state high school rankings by MaxPreps during the regular season. The Defenders won the state title last year behind the play of Sarah Franklin, who graduated and signed to play at Michigan State. They will have the opportunity to play in the Class 2A regional playoffs to close the month of October as they look to advance to the state finals during November.
